I think hotels are interesting places. What brings this to mind? Well, I’m currently staying in one for starters. Trade show travel; a chance to see different airports, hotels, and convention centers across the continent.

Seeing the sights will have to wait till you’re on an actual vacation. Though I can’t complain. I got in before most folks I know were out of church and then got into our space 2 hrs early. Was done with set up and ready to go when the set-up session started.

So, I got to go to lunch, read for extended, uninterrupted periods, nap, and still, I’m up late. Blasted TV.

So, what I’ve noticed about hotels is that they always feel like a rough copy of home. Bed, bathroom, a nicer TV than I can afford for my house, white sheets (not a personal favorite), and at this particular location– enough pillows on the bed that I could invite the rest of the floor over for a pillow fight and they wouldn’t need to bring their own.

There are bland pictures on the walls and a tasteful if not completely ugly mirror. It’s like it’s all designed to be ignored. It’s almost like the whole room is in a hurry to get out of it’s own way. And don’t get me wrong: this is a very nice hotel. Great service, and the accomidations are top notch as well. I can think of a lot of places I’d rather not stay at. I guess what strikes me as I sit here typing is that hotel rooms seem to be about being homy enough to comfortable without making you pay attention to what the room is really like.

In my current mindset, thinking about a certin wizard, I think it’s relavant because it’s a question of appearing one way but being something else. Just another example. That’s all. I think in this case it may just be all right as is, but what would it look like to be different; to be home-like and able to stand out on it’s own with decorations etc. I’m just wondering is all…...
