Rayong beach project under question
Feb 08, 2012
A fact-finding panel should investigate the project of developing Rayong's Mae Rumphueng Beach, which had been approved by Royal Forest Department (RFD) chief Suwit Rattanamanee in September 2010.
Damrong Phidej, chief of the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department (NPWPCD), said yesterday that the beach is reportedly covered with up to 30 fishermen's homes and shop...
Facebook is a great stress-buster, especially if your idea of fun, like mine, is to laugh at other people's love for inanities. It's also a great learning platform, as I have discovered after joining the community named Gourmet Planet.
Barring notable exceptions that I am told exist (I haven't come across that many), Facebook communities are either marketing ploys of all kinds of...
Avioeromatkani paratiisisaarilla Koh samedilla jatkuu Julian kanssa
Feb 08, 2012
Olemme viettaneet yli kaksi viikkoa Julian kanssa Bongien nimisella valkohiekkaisella rannalla Koh Samed saarilla, jonka olemassa olosta meilla ei ollut aiemmin mitaan tietoa. Laivat lahtevat paasatamasta miten sattuu ja paatyvat eri rannoille ympari Koh Samedia miten sattuu, ellei sitten ole etukateen buukannut jotain matkaa...
Unlike Thailand Travel Kit by Jack B. Wily, this book is in journal form. It was written day by day throughout a one week trip to Samet Island. The author has been to Samet Island about fifteen times. It was written in a notebook on the porch of a hut in between hikes and swimming on a great beach. Then it was typed up in Bangsaen, Thailand. The author has spent eight years in the country. Jack also writes fiction, this journal is an informal record of a trip to one of the main islands of Thailand. A worthwhile read for anyone heading towards one of the most popular islands in the country -- Koh Samet. The island has a personality of its own. Less developed, more relaxed than some of the other islands. The book tells of a beach that is uncrowded and peaceful and in the author's opinion one of the best beaches in Thailand.

Monday, May 10, 2010
Hi Everybody!
This past weekend, myself and about 20 other teachers from my school, headed down to Ko Samet Island for a little 'R & R' to recharge our batteries for the final push to the end of the school year. I am writing this now tired, sore, and really sun burnt- all signs of a great weekend at the Beach! Enjoy the pictures. I will write the blog all about it soon...
Koh samet white sand beaches Hat sai kaew,Crystal Sand Beach ...
Koh Samet is located in the Gulf of Thailand , 200km South East from Bangkok Thailand . This island has a great influence in the Thai culture due to the famous “Pra Apai Manee” legend written by renowned poet Sunthorn Poo in the late 19th century. Koh Samed is also the closest island from Bangkok where tourists , locals and tired souls escape to relax and enjoy some good times amid the real nature .
From Bangkok you can hire a private taxi, minibus or take the public bus at Ekkamai bus station . The new highway offers ideal accessibility and your short 2 hours journey will take you to the pier at Ban Phe, opposite to Koh Samet. visit White Sand Beach. There are a wide range of accommodations on the island with prices at the low-end starting from 200 baht for a bungalow with basic amenities, while bungalows with furniture and air-conditioning may start at the rate of 600 baht. Mid-range hotels and resorts mostly located around the Hat Sai Kaew area are also available. Sawadee Kha Ang Thong - Koh Samet, Pak Chong, Bangkok, Thailand ...
Teaching These last two weeks of school just flew by. Finishing last minute lessons, adding M4's on facebook, reviewing with students for final exams, going out for dessert with M4 students, and grading final exams.
It is sad to be leaving this beautiful school and some of the students, but I am also extremely happy to have gained this amazing experience, and I am excited for the adventures to come!! I hope you keep following along!
Pak Chang - Khao Yai National Park (East of Bangkok) -I went on an all day jungle trek with Green Leaf Tours… It was a neat tour and I had a wonderful day, but nothing was spectacular (I think I am just really spoiled with so many beautiful places I have seen :) …. We trekked through the jungle and saw monkeys, gibbons, big horned birds, a scorpion and heard elephants and saw trees moving ! but didn’t actually see any elephants :(… and we went to Khao Yai waterfall (this is the famous waterfall that is in the movie : The Beach; which I haven't seen, and those of you who know me all too well are not surprised about that hehe)
-The most fascinating and entertaining part of my trip was being in a group with this family : They are living in Bangkok and just moved from Laos. The mom is Belgian, the dad German and the boy and girl are fluent in English and the can also speak Belgian and German with their parents… It was pretty amazing and I enjoyed spending the day with them.
-I rode the train from the National Park back home..... On the train I was thoroughly entertained...
Delights and disasters in Koh Samet - Ao Prao - Koh Samet ...
. If in Chiang Mai or Koh Chang you will be showered with magazines about the locality, brochures on dining and shopping, adverts about activities, maps and gazettes, in Koh Samet there is nothing.
First we thought our hotel was kidding when we asked for something to read about the island however, having visited the tourist "information centre", all we got was a computer generated sheet of paper with an outline of a map. What is going on?
The Ao Prao Bay is a very beautiful place with 3-4 overpriced hotels in lovely gardens. We stayed in the Ao Prao Resort and at $145 per night is was not a good value for money. The room was spacious and comfortable, the shower was hot and good, but the air conditioning kept on breaking down and little insects kept on crawling out of the sink and sitting in the bowl. The more you sprayed them, the more of them appeared. We pitied the staff - friendly, sweet and hardworking, the guests' irritation with the hotel's shortcomings must affect them. We have lived in Papua New Guinean shacks with no light or running water, so why should we be bothered that plastic beds on the hotel beach have broken arms or legs? But we do. Pull the socks up, spend some of the money customers pay and buy new beds.
The restaurant on the decked terrace overlooks the sea and looks like a romantic paradise. But food is expensive and disappointing. We avoided steak which was offered at $30 a plate, but had 2 glasses of delicious wine for $8 per glass. Then I ordered the eagle fish with steamed vegetables and my husband - a chicken. The eagle fish was $15 and turned out to be a pair of the local tiny bony fishes (pla tuu) which are sold at markets for 30 cents a pair. To add insult to injury they were previously smoked and re-heated before being served on a pile of uncooked veg (carrots, some greenery, cucumber and a bit of rice). The sauce was pretentious and inedible as it had a combination of ingredients that did not...
