Chic Geek: Holiday Party Glam - Fierce and Nerdy

A blogumn by Delia Hauser

I’m going to keep this short and sweet so you can get to the part where you click on all the fun stuff I found this week to buy.  We are quickly approaching holiday party season and it’s our chance to use these events as an excuse to dress up in lots of shiny things inappropriate any other time.  We get to wear silver with satin with rhinestones with beading.  The only rule is to add one more thing once you think you’re done!

Unfortunately, every happy time has its dark cloud and this year it’s probably being poor.  So, I challenged myself to find affordable “glam” that feels lush but won’t empty your wallets.  Let me just tell you there is a lot out there but most of it looks cheap and crappy.  Since I don’t support buying tons of ugly things for $10 that will tear or break in a day, I set my goal at $100 or less for really great finds.  That way, you can afford to buy a few wonderful new pieces to add to the stuff you already have and they will last you until next year’s parties.

I found some amazing retro pieces, so here’s a helpful hint when buying vintage clothing: unless you are a brilliant seamstress, you CAN’T easily just “bring it in” but if it fits you well, you CAN easily pay someone to hem a floor length Dynasty gown into a sexy mini dress.  Think LENGTH, not FIT when considering updating or altering something.  Check out my finds!  This season you get to feel chic, glamorous and sparkly through all your parties without breaking the bank.

Go out and shine!!!

I used to love vintage stuff, but now I hate it, b/c if just doesn't ever seem to fit by body right anymore, and I have a ton of difficulty finding stuff in my size — especially pants (I'm assuming that women just didn't have as much belly fat back in the day). I often feel that vintage is only for the super skinny.

What To Wear – Defining The Holiday Party Dress Code « Latonia Peirson

With the holidays rapidly approaching, many are searching for the perfect attire for seasonal parties. Making sure one is function appropriate often proves more difficult than finding a fabulous ensemble. The following definitions cover most of the party attire requirements seen during the holidays and guarantee you’ll look fab and function appropriate in whatever you chose.

Cocktail attire is a consistent party theme throughout the holidays. It’s name is derived quite aptly from the concept of people gathering prior to a formal dinner or event for cocktails. Appropriate attire consists of dresses, ranging from mid-thigh to one inch below the knee. Tailored pants suits are also appropriate, however consider avoiding a business standby, instead add accents in a vibrant color, chose a fitted cut or incorporate a suit created from a unique textile. Silk, Chatung, Brocade, Polyester, Cashmere, Rayon, Velour, Velvet and Velveteen are all appropriate cocktail fabrics and embellishments with beading and sequins are also appropriate.

Every so often, you will find yourself being asked to wear semi formal attire to such events as weddings and award ceremonies. This form of attire gets the most attention, but often because of its universal use. Many associate other forms of dress such as cocktail attire, with semi-formal. However, Semi-formal attire is much more formal than cocktail attire. Pants suits may be worn if refined in construction and dresses ranging from an inch above the knee to two inches above the ankle are appropriate. Taffeta, Chiffon, Silk, Satin, Sateen, Gossamer, Brocade, Rayon, Velour, Velvet, Velveteen are all appropriate semi-formal fabric choices.

Occasionally business formal dress requirements are seen, often in work related or political functions. Business formal is the same as semi formal, however women should chose more tailored dresses or pants suits. Slinky, sexy or revealing attire is generally best suited for a NON-business formal affair.

It does not sound likely. Best thing is to have a blood test to find out for definite.

Remember that the most likely way to get infected is via contact with blood. Also bodily fluids but there is no certainty with this. From what you describe,

AIDS and HIV are different conditions. Even if you caught HIV you wouldn't have AIDS yet (you would know about if you did).

Anyway, it sounds like your chances are pretty low. Kissing, touching or sex using a condom should not transfer

I doubt you would have AIDS, especially since it isnt as widespread in developed countries.
Also, your symptoms could just all be from the stress of what has happened and thinking you have aids. just relax and get it checked out

is there like an "adopt a family" for get togethers? lol?

Q: Because I barely even know 40 ppl and only have 10 family members. I've read some stuff where 75 people come to a baby shower. I don't see a point in even having a baby shower if there are very few people. And at holidays there is like 6 people there.

A: 75 people come to a baby shower, great , now of those 75 who could you call in the middle of the night to mind your older child while you go to deliver said baby?

There is a HUGE difference between friends & acquaintances.

Unlikely going by your description of what you did. You may have caught influenza but that is most likely all. You can go to a doctor and ask for a test to be totally.

A: You imply that the two of you are already intimate; however, there is a difference between sharing physically and sharing your heart. The two may go together but the latter is so much harder to get over.

Remind him that while he is gone
